Some Leonard Cohen lyrics seem in order today.
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knowsEverybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows
Had a conversation with my housemate last night that is worth mentioning. He is Buddhist and Jewish. We call him the BuJew… he likes that. He is also, perhaps the kindest, slowest to anger man I know.
Over wheat pasta and tofu- he turned to me and said.
“Kate- I think the people that feel like we do about this election are going to get really militant and start blowing stuff up- like the Weather Underground.” He
went on to say…
“I feel like doing it, and if I feel like doing it ( as he gently carried a spider to the porch for safety)… then I can only imagine what angry people feel.”
huh.
yeah, I felt like giving it all up and moving into a crack house.
But I thought we’re doing that already… ;-)
Hey, the crack house is one block over. The good thing is it’s a short commute.
So, what, this is some sort of “day job”? Or “hobby”? Where’s your commitment? Your friendly neighborhood crack house deserves more respect.
