Last week our co-pays at the pharmacy totalled $85, for prescriptions valued at just under $1000. How are any of us sick people supposed to survive without insurance? How do folks make it?

exactly!!! James got pink eye from one of his students, and the prescription was $80!!! Seriously? That was WITH insurance!!!! And the republicans still think that everything is hunky dory in the healthcare department. HA! I just hope I am never sick and poor. That is literally a deadly combination.
the healthcare industry is just a disguise for the devil. i spend a good part of my day accessing medications for my HIV/AIDS patients. most of them don’t have insurance. now, the fed gov’t has made it relatively easy for them to get specific HIV meds. the hard part is everything else…like psych meds, blood pressure, certain antibiotics, and the list goes on forever. where’s the logic in all this? ok, we’re going to provide the HIV meds a person needs to stay healthy and alive, but since you are going to live longer & better, you might end up with all the other illness/ailments that comes with *life* and age. but nooooo…we won’t give you the meds to treat that, you’re on your own.
the pharmeuticals try to be helpful with their Patient Assistance Programs but that’s just evil disguised as paperwork. We will give you a month’s worth of medication free, but only after 2 doctors statments, three trees of paper, 1 migraine, and 3 attempted faxes.
and yes, i do this for a living.
One of the great tragedies of this country is that people can lose it all if they,or their family, get sick. I was once part of a study so that I could get the prescriptions I needed, driving 2 1/2 hours away to do so. Now I have insurance and things are markedly better, but I still have to budget my healthcare (hrm, do I really need that test that will definitively tell me if I’m on my way to glaucoma? Have I used my cash allotment for the year?).
Gawd, Chutney, what would be the point of being rich if EVERYBODY could afford decent health care? We have to have some way of keeping score. Are you trying to undermine the free enterprise system with your rabble rousing? :P
