A lot went on in the news while MyIrony was down. Here are three stories you might have missed:
- Spanish Muslims declare fatwa on bin Laden. I guess turn about is fair play.
- The 52 funniest things about the upcoming death of the Pope. Folks were fired over this one. Number 22 was funniest: “Mankind scrambles to choose new leader of inflexible, sexually morbid institutional anachronism; heretofore anonymous bureaucrat will instantly be celebrated as world’s holiest man as he travels to AIDS-stricken Africa to denounce the use of condoms.”
- Cremated remains of 3,500 mentally ill found in Oregon asylum. Seems that in many cases, family members never came to pick up the cremains. Due to deterioration, many of the containers can no longer be identified.
I’d heard about the 52 things, but this was my first chance to read them. Some of them were actually funny, but it was way more offensive than I’d imagined. And it’s not like I thought a piece with that title wouldn’t be somewhat offensive. I do like that #22 you called out, though.
It does sort of degenerate into a delirium at its own offensiveness as it goes along.
