Barak Obama will be the first black President of the United States. He’s the democratic nominee for Senate in Illinois, and he gave last night’s keynote address at the Democratic Convention.
I felt chills. You have to hear it for yourself. (Video and text here.)
Like conservative pundit David Brooks said, “It was like watching Tiger Woods’ first tournament.”
Update: Jeane at Body & Soul had a similar reaction.

I was talking to a friend yesterday about the excitement here about a Barak Obama presidency in 2008. But he had doubts that it co […]
 Yes!! I TOTALLY agree!!! Obama WILL be the first black president of the United States and he would be an EXCELLENT president. I will do everything in my power to see this man elected some day as president.
Obama seems to represent all that we hope for in new leaders — i.e., the people we need to replace the wornout, tired, inhumane politics of the last four years. Maybe his success will attract others like him to rejuvenate American democracy.
someone needs to start a website obama4pres.com!!!!!
Obama For President!
sign me up ,my two boys and husband. It reminded me of why we are fighting so hard for the hopes and dreams of all Americans.
Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama will make a Perfect Pair for 2008!!!!!
I will be ready the first day to put in my VOTE for them.
Welcome and thanks to everyone coming to this page post-election! This tells me my fellow Dems are already looking ahead even after Tuesday’s defeat. Keep hope alive.
My daughter nakesha was watching the eleciton and she said to me after hearing Mr. Barak Obama speech, “momma I think Mr. Barak Obama should run for president.” Now if a 13yr old teenager feels this we as a nation should come together and support her. Clearly she recognize something of HOPE in his speech for the whole country. I say lets encourage the nation to support Mr. Obama for the next president of usa in 2008
I truly believe that the world will be ready in 2008 for Mr. Barak Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton for pres. and vice pres. of the usa. Lets start a web site for support right away
Maybe not 2008 because you have to question if America is ready; give him a few years as Senator under his belt and the world will be in awe at the first black president. He has caught my attention and that of my peers; we live in Florida and Mr. Obama has the ability to reach out to the urban voters and well as the rural; black or white; latin or asian he will change this country
But Bush was governor about as long as Obama will have been in the Senate at that point. Shouldn’t be a problem. And America may never be “ready,” but that doesn’t negate its responsibility to get over that anyway.
Is he even eligible for President? I believe that both of his parents were not US citizens and he wasn’t born in this country.
after doing some research, I found that he was born in Hawaii.
And his mom is from Kansas. Good state to be from (worked for Ike, though not for Dole).
I’m note sure an Edwards candidacy would help, regionally anyway. Can we really expect to take the South? But if you can consider the Mississippi a region, we could definitely win with that. (AR, MO, IA and LA plus the ones that are already blue. KY, TN and MS seem tougher to turn.) Didn’t Clinton pretty much pull that off?
Although I suppose Hillary could claim Miss as a region too, since she’s from IL and live in AR for so long.
I just saw that address he made prior to the election, and I would so vote for him in an instant. He has everything a good leader needs. Charisma, good politics, the right ideas about life, politics, and political advertisements, he doesn’t have a speech impediment, plus he worked his way up. He earned his degrees in school.
Vote Obama 2008!
Yo Yo,
We must get our message to this man that we need him badly. Write call and scream for this man for 2008. It is never too early!
I would most certainly contribute some cash for an obama site if some \one new how to create a good one. What better place than here? What better time than now?
Folks, Mr. Obama is the democrat’s best chance for a presidential bid in 2008. Obama truly is a unitarian and not a divider. He brings new hope and optimism to an America that is tired of democratic dinosaurs who preach nothing but partisanship. We must get this bid started right away so that we may know the promise of a better America. Obama for President 2008!
Just heard Obama on Meet the Press: “The reason I shared a million voters with George Bush is that from a Democratic perspective I was able to talk about values in ways that resonated with folks. “
Sorry, no time for an Obama website. But still a good idea.
well if you know someone with the time for an obama website please send them this way
I would love to see Obama as our next president. Let’s hope he is successful in the Senate. Unlike our current president, I could listen to Obama speak all the time. I can’t stand listening to Bush hack up the English language. Obama ’08! Keep the faith and keep speaking out, fellow Democrats!
and John Edwards should be his running mate
I think the Republicans see it coming, that’s why they are so desperate for a Constitutional Amendment to put Ahhrnold on the ballot. They know they haven’t got a prayer.
This says it all. “OBAMA IN ’08!!!!!And I am a republican. My views are often conservative, however I feel it is time to bring the country together and the only folks who would have a short term bummer would be the good folks of Illinois.
I can see good things happening already for that state. The only thing I feel as strongly about is that if he selects Mrs H. Clinton for veep, he can kiss his hope of living in the White House goodbye. it goes “out the window” so to speak.
Mr. Obama not only deserves a shot at being Prez, our country needs him NOW!!! I wish he was on the Dem ballot in ’04 insetad of Mr. Kerry. It would have been a much better race for the Dems and I would have voted for him. As I said to start “OBAMA IN ’08!!!!!!!!!!! ” Let’s do it. Amen. Peace be with you all.
How old will Mr. Obama be in 2008?
Obama will be 47 in 2008. I say that is a perfect age to become president Not too old that he is totally out of touch but old enough to not be too out ragously young. And besides that I just saw an interview with him on PBS and man is he great. I get butterflies when I hear this man speak. I know his critics may say that he is too young and inexperienced but once the whole country hears what this guy has to say no one will care.
OBAMA 2008!
will the democratic party gamble with the presidency on a black male? they are scared and do not want to lose another 4 years. I would love to see obama as the president, but considering the rascist views of many americans, is he truly a vialbe option?
Ya gotta have some faith in America. Sure there will be a portion of the U.S. that won’t vote for him because of his race but once the rest of the country is introduced to him I am sure he will win them over. I would rather go with Obama then have a canidate who lacks a dynamic personality. He is perhaps the most uniting figure we have in politics today. Perhaps he can even change the minds of some “racists” out there.
Keep the Faith my Brothers and Sisters,
Noah
i hope you are right mr dweezil. as i for one will not be able to take 12 straight years of the republican party.
the thing I hated most about the last election was the way we were all manipulated emotionally to create a huge division…I began to feel hatred toward my neighbors, even though I knew the whole thing was an illusion and that everyone was being played. Still it became a sort of mass hysteria, I couldn’t wait for it to stop…I feel like Obama could possibly save us from all this garbage…can you imagine having a president that you could actually respect or even love? wow!
OBAMA will be the first black president but i dont think it will happen in 2008…..it wil probly be in 2016….because America need to see that he can handle someshit….so he needs to show that he is a good senator first…..OBAMA!!!!
I am a 17 year old male for Canada. I support the concept of Barak Obama for President of the US in the near future. His leadership will restore the balance of power in the US and bring about an era of enlightenment and possibly a rightful swing towards the left in American politics. It is imparitive that voters break the trend of Republican right-wing authority in the years to come as well as the disturbing merger of church and state. Fellow Democratic Americans, I wish you all the best. Keep on pursuing what you believe in!
in all things giving honor to the most high GOD of the earth and universe whom grants praise and honor on whom he seems fit. i pray this man now and however GOD WILL USE HIM IN THE FUTURE. SELAH
Okay, so the man is black. And we know racism still exists in America. This, however, could work in his favor. Minorities are going to vote for this man, simply because HE is a minority. And, of course, the normal, non-racists citizens, will also support him. I believe the majority of racist Americans are Republicans anyway! Obama 2008!!!!!!!
Minorities don’t just vote for a person because he or she is black. If Colin Powell ran for President I doubt he would get more than 15 percent of the black vote. The real issue is that Obama is a Democrat and Democrats since Roosevelt have traditionally stood for the rights of all men, including minorities. Obama is not and will not be ready for the Presidency in 2008. Most early polls and political pundits see Hillary Clinton as a shoo-in for the Democratic Nomination and better than half of them believe she will choose Obama as her running mate. After another eight Clinton Presidency, Obama will be ready for the White House and could possibly win if he can get the full support of Latin Americans. Between Latinos and African Americans, by 2016, that would represent about 32 percent of the electorate. Add in half of the female-vote and you get a 55 percent lead to victory.
By the way, 2008 just might become another Clinton-Bush showdown with Hillary-Obama against the Jeb Bush-Bill Frist ticket.
Obama would be the best president
I cry to think that the democrats may choose hillary clinton when such a blessing as obama has fallen right on thier door step.
Fow what it’s worth, you may be the first Liberal/Democrat I have heard who actually wants Hillary to run or get nominated. I think Hillary would be an unparalelled disaster for the Democratic party. Yes, she’s fantastic in a lot of ways, and I would vote for her happily, but I honestly think she would have less than no chance of winning the general election. She lacks the charisma and charm it takes to win on a national level. Finally have you noticed how many conservative commentator are pushing us to nominate her? She a GOP dream canidate and they know it. Obama on the other-hand, well let’s just say I think Obama oh-eight, sounds pretty good.
I can’t see the Dems winning anytime soon. I think we’re gonna be stuck with the Republicans for sometime yet. So what the hell… give Obama a go….
I think Obama would be great in 2016. He needs to prove himself alittle more to the Americans who won’t give him the time of day jsut because he’s black. If he and Hillary were on the same ticket and he was the vice that would possibly give us 16 years of democratic leadership. People we need to think of the long term not just 2008. If Hillary or Obama make it in 2008 then we need to have already set in place a plan for the next 4-12 years. If we continue with republicans in leadership we will all suffer. Financially I can’t take anymore. We have got to have a LONG TERM BREAK THROUGH!!!! Hillary and Obama for 2008-2016 and Obama and ???? for 2016-2024. Think about it!
