Earlier this month I read somewhere that Mussolini defined fascism as the union of the State with the Corporation. Well, having grown up with friends whose parents worked for Halliburton, that scared the bejeezus out of me.
So I’ve been reading up on fascism. Just read Mussolini himself. So is the US becoming fascist? If I were America’s psychiatrist, I’d answer, “You do have some fascist qualities, but, no, you do not have fascism.” More later.
Whatever happened to Adorno’s good old F-scale?
Like I should talk. I haven’t read The Authoritarian Personality.
According to the F-scale, at least the Red states are well on their way to facism. But that test only measures potential for fascism, not its existence.
I’m trying to find time to get through Arendt’s work on totalitarianism. A different bird, but still close cousins.
